Root & Splendor was born from a simple but undeniable truth: clean should work - and it should be safe.

For me, that truth hit home every day in a house full of four wild-at-heart boys and endless mountains of laundry. Grass stains, sweat, dirt, and mystery odors were constant companions. I wanted products that could truly clean our clothes without exposing us - or the planet - to questionable risks. I didn't think the ask was too high: I wanted products that kept my family safe, while also performing with excellence.

Conventional detergents cleaned well, but came with ingredient lists and side effects that I could not trust. So I chose the natural alternatives, even though they fell significantly short in performance and efficacy. But, upon a deep dive, I learned an important and startling lesson: natural does not mean safe. I was led to believe that they were one in the same. However, think poison ivy (for example) - it’s natural, but you wouldn’t rub it on your skin. Just like that, many so-called “natural” ingredients unfortunately still carry hidden risks and negative health effects, just like synthetic chemicals. I knew we deserved better, as a family and as consumers.

Determined to create a better way, I partnered with chemists and scientists who shared my values. Together, we spent years researching, testing, and formulating products that are truly effective and ingredient safe. No compromising.

We are unwavering in our commitment to bring you 100% natural ingredients and powerfully effective formulas. Each formula is lab-verified for performance, and every order includes a personal touch - a handwritten note from our team. We are proudly woman owned and operated.

100% Plant-Based & Safe: Every ingredient is sourced from nature and carefully vetted to ensure it’s safe for people, pets, and the planet. For other brands, natural does not mean safe - so we go deeper.
Enzyme Power: Our laundry products use five types of plant-based enzymes for deep cleaning, stain removal, odor elimination, and fabric care, brightening, whitening and softening clothes - because true clean starts at the microscopic level.
Ultra-Concentrated: We use no added water, making our formulas sustainable and powerful. A little goes a long way, for instance, 1 Tablespoon per load of laundry.
Pure and Natural Essential Oils: Our scents come from 100% pure and natural essential oils, safe for your family and luxuriously fresh.
Lab Verified Performance: our laundry essentials achieve premium results for efficacy, deep cleaning and odor removal.
Eco-Friendly Formula: sewer, septic and grey water system safe; effective in hot and cold water, waterways safe and hypoallergenic - being good stewards of our Earth in every aspect of our business.
EWG Verified: we formulate according to the highest standards of the Environmental Working Group. Our Laundry Detergent Free and Clear, and Stain Remover, are proudly EWG Verified.

Our Packaging & Sustainability

Eco-Friendly Design and Impact: Our bag-in-box and bag-in-bottle system provides an 80% reduction in plastic, and reduces carbon footprint by 800% in the full life cycle compared to rigid plastic jugs. We do not just focus on end of life of a package (recyclability/compostability), but rather the entire pollution impact from how the package is made, stored, shipped, and then end of life.
Refill & Closed-Loop Options: We partner with hundreds of bulk refill stores across the country, and we take back bulk containers to keep them in circulation - reducing waste, eliminating single use containers, and saving you money.
